Refunds, Cancellation and General Ticket Information

Refund Policy

Mount Washington is renowned for its severe and unpredictable weather, so our trains are designed to operate safely as scheduled in conditions that are typical to the region. We do not issue refunds for inclement weather or delays caused due to weather-related issues. However, the company reserves the right, for weather or safety-related reasons, to shorten the train trip:

  • If your trip is shortened to “Skyline”, approximately 5600’ in elevation, you are entitled to a refund of up to $21 off an Adult ticket and up to $6 off a Child ticket.

  • If the trip is shortened to “Waumbek,” approximately 3800’ in elevation, your ticket price will be reduced to a flat rate of $57 for Adults and $43 for Children.

  • In lieu of a refund, you can receive a transferable customer credit, good for a similar ride on the Cog Railway at another time.

  • If your train is delayed by more than 1.5 hours for reasons unrelated to weather you will be entitled to a refund of up to $21 off what you paid for an Adult ticket and $6 off what you paid for a Child ticket.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your tickets after purchase, our refund policy is based on how close to the date of departure the cancellation is made. This policy allows us the greatest flexibility in being able to reissue the canceled tickets to other guests. 

  • You will be entitled to a full refund in the event the company cancels your train excursion.

  • Tickets canceled more than 3 months prior to the departure date are entitled to a complete refund

  • Tickets canceled LESS than 3 months and MORE than 15 days prior to the date of departure are subject to a cancellation fee of $15 PER TICKET plus any online convenience fees. 

  • Absolutely no refunds will be permitted if a ticket is canceled LESS than 15 days prior to the date of departure. However, those tickets may be exchanged for a customer credit that can be used on a future excursion, subject to a move fee. Customer credits cannot be issued online– please call (800) 922-8825 or visit our ticket office in person.

  • In the event that a train excursion is canceled or postponed, the Cog Railway will make every effort to contact every patron via e-mail or text, time permitting. Please check your e-mail/text messages on your scheduled day of departure for update.

  • If the excursion is canceled, the ticket holder agrees that their only recourse is and shall be limited to a refund of the printed price on the ticket held.

Move/Missed Train Policy

  • Due to often overwhelming demand, tickets are subject to a $15 Move fee if, once purchased, you need to reschedule your trip (Waumbek move fee is $5 per ticket). This policy helps us avoid unnecessarily empty seats.

  • If you miss your scheduled train for any reason, we will do our best to seat you on a later train if space is available. Your tickets will be reissued subject to a $20 per ticket Missed Train fee ($30 on Saturdays, holidays and during foliage season in the Fall). To avoid missed train fees, guests are strongly encouraged to arrive at least 45 minutes prior to departure time.

General Ticket Information

  • If your tickets are to be "held at will call", they will be available at the ticket office and should be picked up 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time.

  • To expedite your transaction please have a copy of your order confirmation and confirmation number.

  • For discount codes, coupons, all coupons and IDs must be shown at the ticket office at the time of pickup to verify that you are entitled to the discount requested.

  • Children under 4 years of age sitting on a ticketed adult’s lap ride free

  • Tickets are a revocable license and shall be canceled and admission refused upon issuance of a refund of the purchase price.

  • No resales of tickets are permitted and such activity will result in the cancellation of tickets and the forfeiture of any funds paid for said tickets.

  • Tickets lost or stolen cannot be replaced.

  • The ticket holder voluntarily assumes all risk and danger incidental to the event for which this ticket is issued whether occurring prior to, during or after the same.

  • All patrons purchasing tickets on the Cog Railway agree to be bound to the terms and conditions outlined herein.
